ATLANTA, December 19, 2024 – J. Mack Robinson College of Business, State University of Georgia, will launch a new Master’s degree in Data Science and Interdisciplinary ​Accounting (MIS) in the fall of 2025. This innovative ​program is designed ​to respond to rapid ​technological advances and growing demands ​for skills within the accounting ​profession. By combining ​traditional accounting experience with advanced knowledge in data ​science and artificial intelligence, the program aims to prepare graduates ​for transformational functions ​in the industry.

Bridging accounting and data science
The development of the MIS programme was ​guided by extensive consultations with over 80 external stakeholders, including recruiters, industry leaders and accounting partners. Their perceptions highlighted an increasing demand for professionals who depended on the integration of accounting technical skills with ​new artificial intelligence technologies. ​According to these stakeholders, this experience is essential to ​improve decision-making, ​optimize business processes ​and promote innovation in accounting workflows.
The program is uniquely structured to ​meet these needs by combining basic courses in accounting and data science. Students will complete 10 courses, including four basic data science courses focused on IA and ​analysis, four detailed accounting courses that ensure eligibility for a CPA degree, a core course incorporating ​multidisciplinary knowledge and an optional course tailored to individual ​career ​aspirations. According to Robinson College, ​this format allows for flexibility by maintaining a rigorous approach to preparing graduates for leadership roles in accounting.
